Personal Growth
You’ve done the hard work of surviving. Now, let’s do the rewarding work of thriving.
Personal growth is the ultimate act of self-respect. It’s the daily decision to treat your mental wellbeing as a priority, not an afterthought.
If you’re ready to trade "getting through the day" for "getting what you want out of life," you’ve come to the right place. We’ll find the path together.
Personal growth is preventive care for mental health. It isn't a one-time activity; it’s a lifelong process of paying attention to your patterns so you can develop habits that help you get what you want out of life.
It's about making wellness a priority. It's the practice of focusing on positive activities so you're motivated to get up in the morning. It's about building confidence.
If you don't know what you want out of life, our work together will help you figure that out!
The Path of Self-Discovery: Awakening Your Mental Wellbeing
You’ve always been a student of life. Now, it’s time to study yourself.
Deep down, you know there is a more resilient, more intentional version of you waiting to take the lead. You aren’t here because something is "wrong"—you’re here because you know that mental wellbeing isn't a fluke. It's a craft that’s informed by a combination of life experiences and evidence-based strategies.
Personal growth involves knowing how to tend your mental wellbeing on a daily basis - earning what it looks like, recognizing your patterns, and applying the skills to protect your progress. Let’s stop leaving your fulfillment to chance and start building the habits that make you feel truly alive.
Personal Growth Goals
Here are some examples of practices that can strengthen your mental health — some objectives you may want to work on in therapy:
Sizing up your self-talk
Challenging your limiting beliefs
Building and safeguarding your self-esteem
Identifying your values
Expanding your psychological flexibility
Assessing the trade-offs you’re faced with
Dissecting and solidifying your boundaries
Honing your social skills
Sharpening your professional skills
Determining your priorities
Pursuing your goals
Refining your purpose
Satisfying your passions
These aren't just exercises; they are the fundamental building blocks of a resilient life. When you commit to this level of self-study, you stop reacting to your circumstances and start designing your experiences. By turning these practices into habits, you create a foundation of mental clarity that supports everything else you do.
This is where the internal work leads to external transformation.
The Integration of Insight and Action
When you prioritize personal growth practices, you aren’t just learning skills — you’re transforming your perspective. As you refine your self-esteem and critical thinking, you’ll feel your confidence rise. This shifts how you move through the world.
Your interpersonal connections will deepen. You’ll become more intentional about how you spend your time and who you choose to spend it with. You’ll begin to see the true value in the people and pursuits you invest in, allowing you to reclaim the way you set your own standards. By fine-tuning your overall happiness and rejuvenating your day-to-day quality of life, you create what we call a "life worth living" in the world of positive psychology.
A life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.
The Benefits of Personal Growth
Self-Actualization
If you're the sort of person who’s drawn to articles that offer productivity hacks and success tips, then you’re a personal growth enthusiast. You thrive on challenging yourself, but you don’t always know where to begin, which is why you’re constantly doing “research.” That’s where I come in. I’m Michelle. I’m passionate about personal growth, personal development, self-improvement - whatever you want to call it!
Personal growth psychotherapy is a high-value speciality service for people who want access, attention, and answers. We will pick apart your patterns and figure out what's working for you and what's not. Self-improvement is about seeking self-actualization, the highest level in psychologist Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Self-actualization occurs through dedication to bettering oneself.
Self-actualization is an ideal, the pinnacle of what Abraham Maslow identified as our growth needs. According to Maslow, we have to meet our basic needs first, like food, water and safety. When those physiological needs are met, we strive for belongingness and love, what Maslow called psychological needs. When we form quality relationships and feel like we're part of a community, our self-esteem sky rockets. Only then, said Maslow, can we have a go at fulfilment through self-actualization.
How It Works: What to Expect
I practice solution-focused counseling, which means we focus on empowering you. That can mean anything from gaining insight to improving critical thinking skills to solving problems.
While we concentrate on what’s going on right now, and we set goals that will help you create the future you want for yourself, that doesn’t mean we ignore the past. Where you’ve been and what you’ve been through is relevant as a source of explanation and meaning. The past arms you with valuable information. Here in the present, I help you use that information in the context of understanding how you got here. We can’t break patterns without knowing how and why we developed them to begin with. If you’re interested in empowering yourself, let’s get started. Let's connect what you're doing with what you want to be doing.
There are certain question in counseling that I find especially useful for figuring out what's helping you and what's hurting you. Here are some of the phrases and questions you’ll hear from me a lot:
What’s your part in things?
How does this serve you?
Is what you're doing going to get you what you want?
Is this consistent with your values?
What need is this meeting?
Play the tape through.
I Make Your Life Easier
Between work, family, and leisure, finding time for self-exploration and self-care is a challenge. Believe me, I get it. Most people don’t have time to scour through all the content that's available in the hopes of finding trustworthy sources that offer valuable and easy-to-understand content. I did that for you. Part of my job is having a cache of just the right prompts, articles, videos, and exercises to help you delve more deeply into whatever has come up for you in your life each week.
While we work together, you’ll have plenty of personal growth topics to digest and internalize. You'll have a never-ending supply of self improvement challenges to conquer when you're hankering for that "life worth living". Sometimes you’ll have the time and inclination to read, sometimes you’ll want to listen or watch, and sometimes you’ll want to write. I provide options so you can dig in using the learning method that works best for you on any particular day.
In addition to articles, videos, and interactive e-learning, I make books and workbooks available for your viewing at no additional cost. I’m able to share them through your personalized, private e-library the same way I would if I were to loan you a book to take home. My purchase of these resources allows me to share them with you in your password-protected e-library. I will also teach you how to locate good resources without needing to rely on someone else to provide them. Finding relevant and useful resources is a transferable skill - a skill you can use in real life, not just in therapy.
