Substance Abuse Counseling in Greenacres and Online Throughout Florida
You’re Ready To Start Living On Your Own Terms
Has your relationship with substances taken a toll on things that truly matter, like your family, your health, your job, or your sense of self?
Does it seem like your emotions and moods are always running the show, and control is just out of your reach?
Are you suffering from exhaustion or emotional numbness that you just can’t shake?
Over time, addiction reshapes your entire life. Relationships with your loved ones can fracture, and opportunities can slip through your fingers. Perhaps you’re dwelling on mistakes that you wish you could take back, but you don’t know how to rebuild trust with yourself or others.
Addiction also takes a physical toll that eventually becomes hard to ignore. Poor sleep, chronic pain, and other health problems can compound, making everything else tougher to manage. The financial fallout can follow the same pattern, with debt accumulating or jobs lost due to unreliability.
You Know Something Has To Change—And That’s A Start
Substance abuse is a heavy weight to carry. Maybe you feel trapped and powerless, and making the kind of decision that could allow you to break free can seem impossible. But none of this means that you’re beyond help. It means you’re human, and chances are, you’ve been struggling in silence for a long time.
If you’re curious about pursuing substance abuse counseling, what you’re hoping to gain is probably pretty straightforward: to stay sober, be happy, make your own decisions, and figure out who you really are. That’s exactly what this work is for, and I’m prepared to guide you every step of the way.
Addiction Doesn’t Start In A Vacuum
Understanding the roots of addiction is often the first step towards lasting sobriety. Factors like childhood trauma put people at a disproportionate risk of substance abuse. Growing up in chaotic, unsafe, or emotionally repressed environments can push some individuals to seek any outlet for relief, and substances can fill that role. They serve as a way to cope with that pain in the aftermath. These temporary solutions work just well enough to become habits, but eventually, those habits become harder to control.
If You’re Living With Addiction, You’re Not Alone
Nearly 21 million Americans have at least one addiction, yet only 10% of them receive sobriety help and treatment. You don’t have to be among the 90% of people who never get counseling for addiction, and you don’t have to keep returning to use to get relief. Yes, recovery asks a lot. But the effort is worth it.
Recovery is about so much more than stopping substance use and getting sober. It pushes you to change your habits, your perspectives, your relationships, and even your identity.
The heart of this process is building a life that doesn’t need substances to feel bearable. It’s hard to do this alone, especially when you’re still figuring out who you are and what you want. Helping people along this road through substance abuse counseling is exactly what I’m here for.
Addiction Recovery Therapy Meets You Where You Are
Recovery is raw. It means getting vulnerable and opening up about things you may have never said out loud to anyone. But I know what it feels like to sit across from someone and tell the truth about your life.
My own journey in addiction recovery began back in 2008, and that lived experience serves as the foundation for my work as a therapist. Clients often tell me it makes a difference to work with someone who personally understands what they’re going through.
I specialize in working with:
Adults in recovery who feel like something is missing or want to take their recovery to the next level.
Adults who want to start recovery and need guidance and support.
Adults whose loved ones are struggling with addiction. You need a recovery of your own.
Adults returning after relapse.
Addiction doesn’t fit neatly into one category. Whether you’re struggling with alcohol, illegal drugs, and prescription medications or behavioral addictions like codependency, compulsive shopping, and excessive internet use, addiction counseling can help. The most important thing is that you have a space where you feel safe enough to be honest. The underlying dynamics are often the same, and so is the path forward.
As a dual diagnosis specialist, I also provide counseling for co-occurring mental health conditions that often go hand in hand with substance abuse, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, borderline personality disorder, and bipolar disorder.
The recovery journey touches every aspect of your life. That’s why I work with the whole you.
What To Expect In Substance Abuse Counseling Sessions
In therapy, nothing you bring to the table will be used against you. We’ll explore your time in active addiction to understand how you got to where you are today, but never as a source of blame or shame. Instead, we’ll focus on what’s possible from here. That means identifying your strengths and building on them, even if you can’t see them right now.
We’ll work on managing your cravings and fostering resilience so you can handle whatever life throws at you without reaching for a substance. I’ll also support you in healing the relationships that matter most.
Our secure online sessions will always be tailored to your personal needs. You’ll also have access to a personalized private digital library of activities, readings, worksheets, meditations, and videos chosen in response to what comes up for you during therapy.
But You May Still Have Questions About Substance Use Disorder Counseling…
-
Yes.
-
Depends on what you’re looking for. If that’s your jam, I do. If it’s not, we’ll go in a different direction. I will say that in my experience, 12-step programs work, but only if you’re actually doing the 12-step work. If all you’re doing is going to meetings and filling a chair, you’re missing out on most of the benefits. If you’re turned off by the religious overtones, I can help you compartmentalize that aspect of 12-step recovery so it works for you too.
-
Sure.
How I can help you specifically:
In addition to working with adults who have problems with substance use, I also work with family members who need recovery of their own, sometimes providing psychoeducation, sometimes helping to deal with the toll their loved one’s addiction has taken on their lives. In cases like those, you will be my client rather than the family member who has an addiction.
How I can help your loved one:
If you’re contacting me to work with your family member, they must be over 18 and located in Florida. Although you are welcome and even encouraged to ask questions about my services, if you decide to go with me, your family member will need to reach out to me themselves to start the intake process.
NOTE: If you are financially responsible for your loved one and wish to pay for their therapy, they will need to complete an authorization for disclosure and release of information, and you will need to complete a third-party payer agreement and credit card authorization prior to scheduling the first session. Reach out through my contact page to request the link to that form and to start the intake process itself.
